Classic Bike Ride: upate from Adam
We received an update from Adam this morning
(12 May) whose efforts to raise funds for the children really paid off
despite the fact that his legs were killing him this morning! Adam and
Steve set off at 8.30 to try and avoid the heat but temparatures reach
about 25'c. Adam pushed himself to try and get a good time but had cramp
on the last big hill. His muscle locked and he was unable to move for
about 5 minutes and began to think he may have be out of the race with
about 10 miles still to go. Luckily after taking time to stretch and it
ease his muscles he continued and completed the ride in 4hrs 40mins in
silver medal position. It was so much better than he could have dreamed
of back in February and naturally really pleased with this time and was
looking foward to his first beer in a month.
Steve took a far more sensible and laid
back, approach and set out to make sure he completed the course. With
no speedometer and listening to music on his MP3 he came in at a very
honourable 5hrs 45mins and managed a bronze medal. With his lack of training
and in the heat he was quite rightly very pleased with this achievment.
Adam and Steve wish to pass on their thanks to everyone for their kind
support and will let us know the final total that they raised as soon
as possible. A very big thank you to you guys for putting yourselves through
such a gruelling feat to help the children.
As background, Adam and
his brother-in-law Steve committed themselves to the
Dartmoor Classic Bike Ride on Sunday 11th May to
raise money for the heating fund. (fully clothed) with 100km and 2171m
of hill climbing. They have already reached their Target Amount
of £850 and we hoping to raise more. For more information

Fundraising
Auction: A big thank
you to John Dixon who hosted a fundraising Auction on
the 29th March 2008 at the Stocks Tavern in Parbold,

Local businesses
gave donations to be auctioned off on the night and people gave prizes
which were raffled, 3 professional entertainers gave their services for
free. It was a full house with standing room only. A big screen displayed
the Orphanage pictures and advertised the local businesses who had donated
whilst the children in need style auction took place.

Scope.

I know everyone has already helped
us so much but may I please ask if anyone is thinking of having a fundraising
event in the near future could they PLEASE remember these
children when they do. Right from the start it has been our dearest wish
to make sure these kids are warm next winter but if we don’t have
the money in place in time to get the job done this summer we will feel
like absolute failures. So, if we have to beg, then beg we will. There
is also a Poker Tournament being staged in London - more news to follow.
Your help is needed yet again to help us
reach our goal – please help
us help the children.
